Well the HHonors website is not always reliable.

So this benefit used to be called "spouse stays free" and the policy held at all properties except Hamptons. Now it is "second guest stays free" and it applies to all properties.

The definitive "spouse stays free" has a lengthy discussion here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...use+stays+free

and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...use+stays+free

Does this mean sometimes having to teach front desk clerks about HHonors' T&C's? Yes, but that is a regular occurrence with getting two rooms on one folio and with inputting the rental car bonus code.

The key here is that any rate that has an extra supplement per person does not get the 'second person stays free" benefit, such as a room that comes with dinner or breakfast or tickets to a Broadway show. This has nothing to do with elite benefits, however.
