I posting the below in case anyone does a search for this topic in the future.

I called the Canadian Customer and Border Service Agency and they said since I don't own the car, I must have a written agreement that says I am allowed to drive the car in Canada. I believe most rental agreements from the big boys have this in their paperwork.

We ended up taking our car instead so we wouldn't get turned away after a 7 hour drive to the border.
