Has Hilton always charged more for 2 adults w/ domestic Reservations?

Perhaps I just never noticed that the room rate can be $10 or more when you click "2 adults" when making a domestic reservation? I always thought, at least your run- of -the- mill Hilton hotel , there was not price increase having your spouse with you.

I know that in Europe it is common practice to charge more.

Has anyone been charged more with their reservation showing one on the confirmation but arriving with two?
