As a tall flyer, I find the existing AC pods to be too short.
In lie-flat bed mode, with my feet touching the wall of the "cubicle", I find that my head sticks over the top of the headrest because the seat itself is quite short. It becomes very uncomfortable because there is a "dip" / "gap" in the area above the headrest. My head usually falls/rests in that area, given the shortness of the seat and that the seat does not extend to the edge of the wall. The fact that the headrest is also triangular in shape also does not help, either.
As a result, I usually ask for an extra pillow or two to place in the space above the headrest when the seat is in lie-flat mode, and provide the support needed for the missing space in the area above the headrest. However, sometimes the extra pillow is not available if the business class is full, and then I get a painful neck after a few hours.
My suggestion (and wish) is for AC to install permanent foam cushion in the area above the headrest at lie flat mode, so that a complete flat, flush, even/level surface is provided right up to the edge of the wall.
This should not cost much. I would estimate less than $100 per seat for the foam, the cover, and the screws/attachment required to "fill up" the empty area. The cushion, which will have the same thickness and hardness as the seat (and could be covered with the same material or a different one such as faux leather for easy cleaning), would be shaped to fill in the area above the headrest exactly.
To illustrate, the shaded part in purple/pink would be where the additional cushion is located. This cushion will be secured onto the platform of the seat, so that when the seat is in lie-flat mode, it provides a flat, flush surface all the way to the edge of the wall. The cushioning would have the same thickness and hardness as a rest of the seat to provide a flat surface all the way to the end. When the seat is in seated mode, the cushion remains on the platform.
This small low-cost add-on hardware upgrade will dramatically increase the length of the bed by 5-6 inches and increase the comfort for tall fliers.
I know that there is a plan to retrofit these seats with new ones found in 787 (which I love, btw... because the length is awesome) -but it would take 30 months. By making this improvement in the interim, it will help a lot.
