The director of the Confederation of British Industry, Digby Jones, called on the UK Government to expand airport capacity. In a speech to the Institution of Civil Engineers Jones said it was essential for business and the economy that aviation was allowed to grow.

He warned that passenger demand was expected to more than double from 160 million passengers in 1998 to 333 million in 2015.
