Unless things have changed again recently, this is no longer the case. They have bartender service (= tips) and charge for premium drinks, but otherwise alcohol is free.
"Free" liquor offerings at United Clubs are pretty meager -
- Small glasses of domestic mass market draft beer (e.g. Miller Lite)
- Nearly undrinkable "Sycamore Lane" red and white wine
- Spirits: Well liquor you've never heard of
Everything else will cost you, i.e. a drinkable rum and coke will be $7 - $11, drinkable wine $12 etc. (+ tip) I'd hardly call Bacardi "premium."
