Other then champagne, SQ needs help with wines. Trefethen?? Seriously. Even QR Business Class has a better wine list.
Actually the Trefethen Harmony Chardonnay Oak Knoll District is consistently rated 90 points by Robert Parker. SQ probably was offered an incredible wholesale price for it. Which would allow SQ to offer a 90 point chardonnay, saving money for all the Krug that everyone really wants. It comes down to budget and what they "have to offer" as First Class wines. For SQ to offer a great white Burgundy or a Beringer Private Reserve to possibly just one passenger, probably doesn't make sense. Although I don't find the reds to be over the top either. There are plenty of $50 reds in the world that are incredible....But like you said, they need a new wine expert. Love the trip report, but I now realize I couldn't do a trip like this....
