A recent near miss of a JAL 747 and DC10 has raised several concerns for me. The pilot of the 747 decided to overule the instructions given to him by his onboard TCAS and instead to decend rather than climb as was ordered. At the same time the DC10 increased his decent as ordered by his TCAS until a correction by the computer was made shortly afterward.
The concern is that these stinking pilots think they are so great and wonderful that they know what is best for their aircraft and therefore to overule the onboard computers. What they don't understand is how the systems work. These 2 computers on the 2 different airplanes actually talk to each other and coordinate the collision avoidence. If one pilot screws up, as in this case, then he puts everyone on board of both aircraft at risk.
I feel the actions of this pilot are inexcusable and his salary of many many Yen should stop until he is retrained and shown again how this airplane works.
