Glad to hear the Mumbai transfer experience may be improving soon. I started taking EK on this route (JFK-DXB-HYD) for this reason, after LH discontinued their service from FRA -- EK is not uncommonly less expensive in J, and the transfer in BOM (with or without an overnight) quickly became tiresome.
