A Singapore Airlines jet with 232 people on board returned to Melbourne Airport on Tuesday after its pilots thought they saw flames shooting out of an engine, the airline said.

The airline said they were mistaken. An examination of the engine after the Boeing 747-400 landed showed that there had been no fire, Singapore Airlines said in a statement Wednesday.
