Offered : Any Chevy Spark Hatchback (B) of my choosing (they had 5 different colors all lined up)
Reminded them I was a PC and get a one-car class upgrade.
Received: Hyundai Elantra (C) w/ expired SAT and an apology

Once I gave a friendly reminder to the staff they looked around to try to find another car. They only had the 5 Chevy Spark's available and a Chevy Traverse for $75/day (though they said I could take it if I wanted for no upcharge). I was driving a long distance and ideally wanted something better on fuel but a B was too small (booked a B to get the upgrade to C). They found the keys to a Hyundai Elantra that hadn't been moved for a week or so. He offered to wash it but I declined. They had about 10 cars at various shops to pick-up around town and Sacramento-Downtown HLE took most of their inventory so they were low on inventory.

Upon return, the counter agent backdated the contract charging 2 weekend days instead of 4 and removed the SAT charge. He also offered to drive me anywhere in town I needed to go right away. Overall, he was very apologetic and said to call ahead next time and they would try to have a car specially prepared for me. A potentially not-so great experience turned into a very pleasant one. Now if only Hertz as a whole were like this...
