Are you thinking of the rule that says you must fly 4 segments on AA metal in order to be eligible for AA status (as opposed to flying all code shares)? If so, there have been many posts on here about it and it seems the rule is not enforced.
It's not a question of it not being enforced (AA metal vs. AA flight number for the 4 required segments)-- it's not a rule:
