Lifetime status vs need for 4 qualifying statements - which rule rules?

Hi - sorry if this is answered but I haven't seen it and searching for something that combines elite, lifetime, segments and qualifying rules brings up the whole board!

I have AA lifetime gold elite status, and I'm not flying much paid AA right now. Life means life, I think. But I also know there is a new rule AA and at least UA put in requiring 4 paid segments each year to have any elite status.

So between having lifetime status and the need to have 4 paid segments, does anyone know which of these is correct?

I know some will be upset that there are people with status who aren't flying all around but I earned it before so let's please just take this as an information request rather than an opportunity to flame. Many thanks and best to all. ^
