In Canada I have encountered two taxi drivers who wouldn't take a non-chipped card. I don't know if that's because they get charged more to process without the chip? In both cases I said, I have no cash, and I have no cards with a chip. So either you take the card or I don't pay. In both cases they said fine, ride's on me. And I truly had no cash as I almost never carry cash with me. Both rides were $6 or $7 so not a huge deal, but it was surprising to me.

Coincidentally enough, Amex sent me a replacement card last week that has the chip. YEAY!! I can now ride in Canadian taxis legitimately like
