More and more, shops & ticket vendors will not accept a card without chip. Larger hotels, airline ticket office are mor prone to also accept a magnetic strip swipe. Depending on country, you might encounter a card reader where there isn't any reader insert for a magnetic strip, or it's disabled
This has not been my experience. You will not have any issues especially if you are mainly traveling to tourist destinations.
