Not only are Virgin not in Star Alliance, but very very few airline schemes (even in alliances) allow you to transfer points or miles between schemes (airline schemes are often dead ends for further points transfers, if you can get them out by transfer into other schemes it is at poor rates).
But I don't think you really meant 'transfer' - I think you just meant earning and redeeming.
As said, Virgin are not star alliance, and United not a partner.
