That's what it sounds like.

If BA checks-in your bag (ie you get a BA bag tag), there's a booking reference that appears on the bag tag which is not the "public" reference that you use to get into MMB or CMT etc. I have a suspicion that this is the same as the internal BA reference that's just appeared for the OP - although I've never actually checked this against my own real life experiences.
