I understand your point, and I also mentioned in my initial post that what you did was commendable. However, she already had someone helping her - the GA. I'm sure this GA deals with multiple handicapped/disabled travelers daily, and is experienced in what makes their trip easier for them. Of course when you ask the passenger directly if they want their bag, they're going to say yes. Just as anybody, handicapped or not, who is having their bag checked as opposed to being allowed to carry it on would.
Relying on a GA to look out for your interests is crazy. What would you have wanted in this scenario if it was your parent?
