B. R. Cohn Winery, which is located in Sonoma Valley, experienced significant losses:

“It’s devastating. I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Tom Montgomery, a winemaker for B.R. Cohn Winery in Glen Ellen, California.

B.R. Cohn lost “as much as 50 percent” of its wine, Montgomery said. The winery focuses on high-end, single estate wines that retail between $40 and $100 a bottle.

“It’s not just good wine we lost, it’s our best wine,” he said.

There was also damage at Sebastiani Vineyards, located in the town of Sonoma:

Fourteen of 150 huge holding tanks buckled in the jolt. Each tank holds 30,000 to 70,000 gallons, said Paul Bergna, chief operating officer.

How much had leaked wasn’t clear, but there were large puddles of red and white wine on the floor of the large facility.

Efforts were underway to remove the wine from the broken tanks and move it to other tanks.

“We’re trying to save as much as we can,” he said.

Elsewhere in Sonoma, there were multiple reports of shattered glass, and water and gas leaks:

Shattered glass covered the ground outside a storefront in downtown Sonoma. Captain Jon Morgan of the Sonoma Valley Fire & Rescue Authority said that while the damage seemed minor, officials were still assessing the situation.

"We really haven't had anything big other than water and gas leaks," he said. "We're still assessing as it gets light, for the most part it's been minor damage. We haven't found any damage to structures."

BTW, Sonoma is on the way from San Francisco to Napa, so most people pass through Sonoma on the way to Napa.
