It should "stick"... I suspect the problem you're having is that you're not really logged in. Expert Mode only works if you're logged in, and that means after some period of inactivity (15 minutes?) you have to log in again.
I usually view an existing reservation prior to searching a new one (as this forces a login), but you can also log out and then back in manually.
