I hear that it actually takes more than 8 months to refit a major airline's entire fleet with new cabins, and that even Premium Airlines(TM) like AA don't actually have fleet-wide power at every seat...

(that said, I usually just charge up before I head to the airport, or in a US Club between flights, and so haven't really noticed issues on either the powerless US planes or on AA's retro 1970s Mad Dogs, where the outlets are as random as the holes in the upholstery)
