IME the tasting fees are much higher in Napa than Sonoma and, in fact, some of the wineries in Napa seem more like wine bars.

Instead of spending time in Napa, head up to Mendicino. Also, the drive to the coast from Sonoma goes through a couple small villages with a few log cabin homes and great redwoods.
