I've been told you can have two, though I have one booking with three.

I have active waitlists for a different class (XN confirmed; waitlisted for IN), for a different destination, and for different days. (And had even more that have already cleared.) I've also booked extra tickets just so I can waitlist more. As far as I can tell, waitlists are alive and well.
