On November 7, Midway Airlines will begin twice-daily non-stop service between Raleigh-Durham and San Jose. Midway will operate these flights with new 737-700s.
From RDU, flight 200 will depart at 7:25 AM, and arrive at 10:25 AM. The second departure will be at 5:55 PM, arriving in San Jose at 8:55 PM.
From SJC, flight 205 will depart at 11:15 AM, arriving at 7:19 PM. Flight 209 will be a red-eye, departing at 10:30 PM and arriving at 6:29 AM.
JI's 73Gs have leather seats in both classes. I believe the seating configuration is 8F, 114 Y, yielding a 32-33 inch seat pitch in coach. Midway's service includes hot towels, mints, and gourmet snacks. I'm not sure if Midway has an audio/video system on these planes...(given JI's generally short flight segments, I would lead towards a no).
The flights will offer the first ever non-stop service between the "Research Triangle and Silicon Valley." I could see this developing into quite a profitable route, especially with their decision to offer a choice of departure times.
Midway will use the existing American Airlines gates, ground staff, and check-in facilities at San Jose's Terminal A.
Midway will offer an introductory price of just $149 one-way. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-44-Midway, or by visiting their website at
www.midwayair.com.
Midway and its commuter partner operate 246 daily non-stop flights between their hub at Raleigh-Durham International Airport and 28 destinations in 17 states. Midway's all jet 33 aircraft fleet has an average age of just 2.4 years.
