I don't think it's a joke. Reuter's is publishing this news too:

PARIS (Reuters) - A strip of metal linked to the tyre burst that triggered the fatal Air France Concorde crash seems identical to one missing from a Continental Airlines DC-10 jet, French investigators said on Monday.
