In 10-20 years while new things are springing up around Makassan the place is going to be falling apart and in need of replacement.
On top of that the platform is steamier than a Navajo sweat lodge making it, bar none, the most uncomfortable place to wait for a train in the entire Bangkok rail system.
BTS seems to an exception to that rule, but other than that your point is well taken.
