Or if you have the AmEx waiver. Then you can MR all you want without having to worry about MQDs.

I love this thread. I just took a "secret" MR to Puerto Rico. I only told a couple of close friends (my GF would have wondered where I was...) and family. It would have been just way too much trouble to explain to colleagues and what have you. I also travel great distances occasionally to see a certain rock band that I love, and that's another hard one to explain. (Yes, I flew to Tokyo for two nights to go to a concert...no, you'll never get it.)
I haven't done any international mileage runs but I have done east coast to west coast day trips a couple times. I too don't tell too many people. I figure most won't get it and see it as "dumb" and "a waste of money" (even though my mileage runs have saved me money in bag fees and such). My wife obviously knows and usually doesn't mind since she then gets to benefit somewhat from the status as well. She's tagged along and we've turned a couple of my mileage runs into mini weekend vacations too.
