I love this thread. I just took a "secret" MR to Puerto Rico. I only told a couple of close friends (my GF would have wondered where I was...) and family. It would have been just way too much trouble to explain to colleagues and what have you. I also travel great distances occasionally to see a certain rock band that I love, and that's another hard one to explain. (Yes, I flew to Tokyo for two nights to go to a concert...no, you'll never get it.)

I did wonder what would happen if the plane had gone down (morbid thought, of course) and my colleagues/friends would have found out I was on the plane. "...? Why was he on a flight to San Juan?!?!"
