I believe this was a load factor offer generated by the system. It's the first time I've gotten this offer. The fare class was O and I'm platinum (striving for exec 😊)
How did AA communicate the upgrade offer to you? Did you get an email? Was it during the online check in process? Did an AA agent call you up?
500 is a fare price. For Jfk lhr I would think about it twice. For longer routes I wouldn't be as hesitant
