Much appreciate the response...I should have been more cautious. Since the whole point was a comfortable long flight I had booked the preferred itinerary in business even though refund for the first one had not come through. I had dropped an email to LH refunds explaining the situation last week. Just when i was getting prepared for disputing the charge i got a response saying remaining amount would be refunded to my Amex account and the refund came through today. it was a scare but I'm glad I didn't end up losing $6k because i didn't read the fine print...
