United Becomes First Domestic Airline to Offer Free Headsets and Movies On U.S. Flights
Future Onboard Audio and Video Enhancements Also Planned
CHICAGO, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today announced that it will offer free headsets and movies to customers in all classes of service onboard domestic flights equipped with video programming, becoming the first major U.S. airline to do so. On video flights over three hours, United will offer a free feature film and short-subject programming (such as popular sitcoms and news shows).
``With the busy summer travel season now upon us, United again leads the industry by offering free headsets and feature films to customers on U.S. flights,'' said Graham Atkinson, United Airlines senior vice president-marketing. ``This family-friendly enhancement is just another example of United's ongoing commitment to make air travel more enjoyable.''
Early this fall, United will add a second feature film on longer flights, and will also enhance its onboard audio and short subject video programming, giving customers a wider array of entertainment choices. Ninety-five percent of United's aircraft feature audio or video entertainment, more than any other domestic airline.
According to Atkinson, in addition to eight or more channels of audio entertainment, including the exclusive ``From the Cockpit'' channel that allows customers to hear the conversations between the flight crew and air traffic controllers, United will feature a new audio channel, designed exclusively for the airline by Walt Disney Records.
United will also enhance its short-subject video programming, offering a mix of popular television shows and content produced exclusively for the airline that will be updated weekly. In addition to a weekly offering, United will also introduce a host that gives customers an overview of each flight's video programming.
Movies onboard United's U.S. flights will continue to be changed twice each month, with different films being shown on Eastbound and Westbound segments. In August, United also plans to change its onboard programming on flights to and from Latin America and Europe every two weeks.
United offers more than 2,400 scheduled flights a day to 135 airports in 26 countries and two U.S. territories.
