50K's pretty good, though.

I called Citi, and they say that they can upgrade my account to plat (preserving my history), but can't award the 50K. The only way to get the 50K is by applying fresh, wiping out my history.

I'm thinking about keeping the old account and adding a plat one, mostly for the mile dump. Not sure what to do in long run. Double miles for purchases and free bag are nice perqs, but so is my 33 year history in the event of some screw-up (and getting that advantage means doing most charges on the old card once I've charged $3k worth to get the 50K miles).

Only way around this I can imagine would be to threaten to cancel current card, and hope the "cancellation specialist" has power to force through either 1. a transfer of my account to Plat WITH the 50K or else 2. a 50K dump on my current card just to keep me happy. Both seem unlikely.
