You earn status for the following year based on spending/points/stays/nights accrued this year so spending $20000 in 2014 will give you status all the way through 2015 and expiring at the end of 3/2016. (and not to confuse things, but some posters report getting status for two years on CC spending. YMMV and do not count on it.)
