Revenue Management watching searches?
Are revenue management actively watching what people are searching for, and deliberately not releasing seats as a result?
I've been watching seats on the SEA-LHR route for the past month, doing searches for my preferred dates in Club. Just over a week out, I took the hit and booked a revenue WT+ fare in the hope of using miles to upgrade using miles as the revenue Club fare was insanely priced (If I didn't have an existing event I'd need to go to, I'd book SEA-DUB via LHR, which seems to be half the price!). Low and behold, 7 days out availability is available in every cabin apart from Club for the outbound sector. Looking at ExpertFlyer, it is straight 9's in First, Club and WT+, and the flight leaves on Saturday. Do they really think they can sell that many seats in club? The availability in WT+ and First redemptions has been jumping up every day, now a mere 7 showing in WT+ and 4 in F, but zip in Club.
From the recent thread, it would appear that me using cash to upgrade at the airport is going to leave a mark against me being offered future upgrades using cash at the airport.
Is it just me that wishes the Gold benefit would extend beyond economy? Or is this BA's way of telling me to hurry on up and get to GGL? Maybe they didn't get the memo that DL are really starting to eat away at the traffic on the SEA-LHR route that they've enjoyed the monopoly on for years...
