Today, I'd definitely take the relocations package.
Right out of college, deep in student loan, broke, having worked every summer since I was 11, having a friend in a new city, youth on my side and still a bit of a college wild streak in me (despite going into a very conservative profession), I'd UPS my stuff, buy a one way ticket and pocket at least $4000.
That's my take on it too. As you get older, have more stuff, not into couch surfing, the relo package wins.
As a college kid w/ not much stuff, etc, I'd UPS my stuff, buy a 1-way ticket & pocket the $4K.

But would you have taken it when you were fresh out of college & didn't have anything? The OP is a college kid moving to Seattle. I can't imagine finding an apartment would take 30+ days. It's a valid question re: storage, but I'd be stunned if it took that long (he's not buying a house).
Cheers.
