Nowhere does it say that Diamonds have priority in term of upgrade - this benefit is exactly the same for both levels, except for the possibility of being upgraded to suites for Diamonds.
Well this statement is just misguided. There is 2 pages in the HHonors hotel handbook on how to process upgrades. Each night when assigning rooms Diamonds must be processed first, then Golds, then slivers (yes Silvers) if there is a need based on bookings for that day. Just like airlines deal with upgrading.
Many Diamonds do sound like they complain a lot, but many of us also have "qualified" for Diamond many times over in one year. If I was a gold who earned it, not via a promo, fast track or any other way I would be pissed.
There is some unbalance in this program.
