CNN is reporting it as a MD-82, 65 passengers and 5 crew. Some bodies have been recovered.

The pilot reported some type of mechanical problem and requested to land at LAX. The aircraft disappeared from radar as it descended through 17,000 feet. I also read something about it being upside down as it went down.

My prayers go to those onboard and their families...
