Is the upgrade an upgrade with avios or a cash upgrade? For both cases anyway there is no change fee to pay. For a UuA it is the avios and additional carrier surchage and taxes as noted by Globaliser, and for a cash upgrade it is whatever figure they promoted for the upgrade. As you said it was a cheap WT ticket I am assuming it was a cash upgrade though.

If you then do a change expect to be charged a change fee for the change and have the ticket re-priced as well. At no point are you getting charged the same fee twice.
