I had the same issue on a recent AC award flight as a UA *G redemption. Had to see an agent to process the bags and she insisted on seeing my card even though my *G number was in the reservation. On another note, the priority tags on my bags were ripped off. Seems like a clever CYA method baggage handlers use when mistakenly offloading the priority bags with the kettles.
