Referral emails delayed or not coming through

My partner referred me the Canadian plat card last week (he has a gold). I waited a few days to my gmail account but no email came through (not in junk, etc.). So I watched him do it again on the weekend (same email) and confirmed it was done correctly, but still no email. How long do the email usually take to be processed? Is over a week normal? If not, should we try again with another email address?
