I like the Hotel de Russie. No steps and near the Piazza del Popolo. Have lunch in the garden on a nice day. Very nice. If you like quiet ask for a room facing the beautiful interior garden courtyard. Make sure to get a higher end room as lower categories very small, but really like this hotel. Have also stayed at Hassler but don't care for all the people out front at the top of the stairs! Just my humble opinion.
I also like the Hotel de Russie- the advantage of the Hassler are the stellar views from the 7th (top) floor rooms overlooking all of Rome with private terraces.
Hotel de Russie is good and I also like the interior garden courtyard- good tip on avoiding lower room categories which does sometimes push the price of this hotel up quite a bit- although I do agree to avoid lower room categories here or stay somewhere else.
