Also, I'm going NYC -> SF early September. Jetblue's $360, AA is $450. Is the value still 1-2cents/mile? If so, not worth booking AA for the extra 5K miles, right? (I have no miles on jetblue)
Few points:
1) With the new AA Million miles program only actual flown miles count (+10K miles/year from credit card spend - but please check the current credit card rules whether those are EQM only or both EQM and Million miles). Having Elite status with AA will give you no bonuses for Million miles - only redeemable miles.
2) I still value AA miles at about 2 cents so the price difference is about the value of 5K AA miles you are getting. However, cash is always better as miles do devalue.
3) Even if you fly at 50K/year = PLT you will be still about 7 years away from lifetime GLD.
