Just heard about how some friends of friends very foolishly managed to miss their flight EU-LHR-Americas today. Even more foolish given that they have very little money. Rather to my surprise, they have been given some hope of being allowed to travel on standby tomorrow against an undisclosed fee (and it actually looks like there is some availability). I thought you were completely SOL if you missed a BA flight on a restricted ticket. Do they have any real hope of being reaccommodated?
