I'm a consultant, and my travel is billed to the customer I am visiting. Customers expect us to book reasonable fares. I've decided to fly UA thru IAD to get to PVD, and USAir thru PHL to get home. Delta's pricing has inspired me to join the ff programs of both of these airlines today...not that I really expect to earn enough miles on either airline to make a difference, but who knows?
If I'd really wanted to fly direct I could have burned 32.5K Skymiles and gotten MSP-BOS for about $22 in fees. It was not worth it to me.
EDIT: My RT ticket is $498. Almost $700 less than DL
