I thought I saw a while ago (>1 year) that one of the reasons they stopped doing this was that they didn't have a reliable way to pull tons of connecting flight info in flight, and relied on a printout from the departure gate. Therefore, the announced info could be out of date versus what people were able to get themselves either en route over Gogo or when they landed.

Those announcements would often wake me up. I'll gladly trade them for a few minutes more of sleep en route and just check on wheels down on my phone.
