I never found the announcements terribly helpful as gates change, I could look at the board, check on my phone, etc. But I did always like hearing where people were going. Afternoon arrivals to CLT or PHL I would hear the international connections and feel envious. Occasionally I'd hear a connection back to the origination city - indicating that there was a mileage runner on board. Flying AA lately I liked listening to all of the "new" cities (Texarkana, Springfield, Rapid City, etc.).
