No need to use the steps if you don't want to. Also depending where you are headed in Rome- if you turn left when leaving the hotel there is the road which leads down to a series of main streets.

There are so many other ways to get around the steps, the elevator on the side is ALWAYS stinky and dirty! Turning left is the best way to go.......!! Personally, I don't stay at Hassler any more, they now are catering to bus tours. Enjoy Rome!!
