This part cannot be serious. People pray for people who are very ill, who are in dire circumstances beyond their control, not for people who attempt to defraud a company and then get caught.

Or in other words, it seems that Amex' systems work exactly as intended as they catch people who are attempting to defraud the company by one means or the other.
Account closure will have a long-lasting impact on the OP's credit report presumably as well, I would suppose.
