Leading Internet Retailer and World's Largest Airline to Offer Consumers Full-Service Online Travel Store Featuring Discounted Fares On United Airlines

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1999-- BUY.COM (www.buy.com), a leading Internet retailer and e-commerce portal site, and United Airlines (NYSE:UAL - news) Monday jointly announced a strategic online agreement to launch a comprehensive online travel store.

The new site, BuyTravel.com, will offer reservations and tickets on all major airline carriers, as well as hotels, car rentals and cruises via the World Wide Web.

In addition to its full-service offerings, BuyTravel.com will feature deeply discounted excess inventory fares, known as E-faresŪ, from United Airlines which are currently not widely available from other third party Web sites or travel agents. Under the terms of the agreement, BuyTravel.com will operate as a separate company, owned jointly by both BUY.COM and United Airlines. BuyTravel.com is scheduled to launch later this year.

BuyTravel.com will offer all the benefits of a full-service online travel agent, with special excess inventory fares offered by United Airlines. United Airlines' E-faresŪ provide customers, who are flexible with their travel plans, with a convenient cost-savings alternative to booking airline flights. By using the BuyTravel.com site, customers will be able to easily and safely purchase a variety of tickets ranging from leisure getaways to business trips utilizing the proven e-commerce technology of both BUY.COM and United.

BuyTravel.com will be a featured store within the BUY.COM e-commerce portal site that currently offers computers, software, books, videos, games, music and surplus products at guaranteed low prices.

Both companies will work together to launch and promote the site.
