Good luck. Reinforce the message that you tried to make the change online, but it told you it was not possible and to phone in, so you should not have been charged. Again, if the site was not designed to allow such an upgrade (eg, if you booked using Avios in the first place), BA can rightly (as per their T&Cs) enforce the charge.
